The Top 5 Products You Need for Glowing Skin (and none of them are makeup!)

The number one thing I get asked about makeup from my clients is "how do I get it to glow and just look healthy?" Everyone I meet is looking to slay their foundation, highlight and contour; yet what a lot of people forget is a good base comes from what you use underneath your makeup rather than the makeup itself. Whether it's naturally beautiful skin you prefer or you just want your makeup to look flawless, it all comes down to skincare. Look after that gorgeous face and the rest will follow, promise! So instead of covering up with layers of foundation, checkout my favourite products below and you just might end up using a little less makeup or none at all!

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Available at larger Boots stores, the one pictured was the limited edition version but the original is exactly the same!

If you're a fan of makeup and love wearing it, the first thing you need for great skin is an amazing cleanser! The award winning Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish was introduced to me by my best friend and I absolutely adore it. I love the way it makes my skin feel like I’ve lifted off all the impurities from the day. It's a rich, creamy texture which you massage over a dry face (no water needed just yet), follow the product onto your eyes and feel that stubborn mascara and eyeshadow start to break down. Then grab the muslin cloth which comes with the cleanser, rinse under hot water and start to wipe it off. Right away with one smooth wipe you can literally see all your makeup come off! What are you left with?  Exceptionally clean, purified, smooth and soft skin!

Rose water

Available at most supermarkets, Asian food shops or any off licenses!

Follow your cleansing with pure rose water, use as a toner with a cotton pad and smooth over skin. A toner will help to even out complexion and get rid of any impurities left behind. This product is so underrated and if you look up the amazing benefits of rose water, I promise you'll be using this stuff straight away! It soothes irritated skin, balances oil production, rejuvenates and revitalises to leave skin glowing. Its natural properties also include antioxidants meaning it's great for anti-ageing. I've used toners before and they've either dried up my skin or made it too oily. The great thing about this is that there are no harsh chemicals and you can just let its naturalness do the work! Make sure to use this over the eyes too in order to reduce puffiness. All this for less than £2, it's a no-brainer!

Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate

khiels Daily Reviving Concentrate

Available at all Kiehl’s concession stands and free standing stores. Don’t be shy to ask for a sample or get a consultation!

I love the service I receive at Kiehl’s and when I went in to find this product, yet again they didn't disappoint! For some reason my skin has never agreed with cream based moisturisers, so when I was advised to try a facial oil instead I was a little sceptical. Having just recovered from my acne I wasn't too sure what oil would do, what I didn't realise was that oil actually combats oil! Meaning if you have oily skin, it will balance it out and if you have dry skin it will help to hydrate it. This is something I wished I had learned earlier, because the Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate is one of the best things I've ever used to moisturise!  After using my rose water I pat this onto my face and neck, it's lightweight and quickly
absorbs into the skin leaving it feeling soft but not greasy. It makes my makeup glide on flawlessly and on my no-makeup days, it gives me a healthy and radiant glow as it’s enriched with natural ingredients. What more could you ask for?

Simple Kind to Eyes Revitalising Eye Roll On

simple eye roll on

Available at most Boots, Superdrug or Tesco. Comes with a handy roll on ball which feels amazingly cool around the eyes!

So after cleansing, toning and moisturising that beautiful face, we can't forget the eyes! And it's crazy the amount of times I get asked, "How do I get my concealer to not look cakey?" or “how do I get my eyes to look more awake?” The answer: just simply use an eye cream. What tends to happen is we focus so much on the rest of our face that this little area gets ignored leading to dark circles and dehydrated skin. I recommend using something light during the day like the Simple Kind to Eyes roll on, it reduces puffiness and soothes the eye area. For night time you can afford to go a little heavier with the eye cream, so I'd do a little research depending on your age and under eye concerns to see what suits you best. Either way don't forget this small but very important part of your skincare routine!

MAC Prep and Prime Fix + Spray

mac prep and prime

Available at all MAC stores and concession stands. There’s even a mini sized version you can get which is great for travelling!

So now your skincare is almost complete there's just one step left, spray on that Fix + girl! This product is my holy grail and I cannot recommend it enough. If you're going for a natural look, spritz this all over for a fresh, dewy skin. Or use it before and after your makeup routine for a smooth and glowy finish to your foundation. The secret to this product is that it's lightweight, water based and simply hydrates your skin. With green tea, chamomile and cucumber; it also soothes dry, irritated or acne prone skin. My favourite way to use it? Spray it onto your beauty blender and then use it wet to blend or apply your foundation and concealer, watch the magic happen!

So there you have it, my top 5 products all tried and tested to get you fabulous looking skin with or without makeup. As always I’d love to hear your thoughts or if you've tried these products, drop me a message and let me know how you got on!

Stay beautiful stay you!
